Mrs. Mulcare emphasized the PDM’s unwavering commitment towards making life more affordable for all residents and outlined several key measures that the PDM party plans to implement immediately if elected. These plans are just a start with more to be considered the party also made clear.
Candidate Mulcare outlined that a central focus of the PDM’s plan is the introduction of a Cost- of-Living Allowance (COLA), designed to provide direct financial relief to households struggling with the rising prices of essential goods and services. This allowance will be crucial in
helping families meet their basic needs as inflation continues to pressure household budgets.
Mrs. Mulcare also highlighted PDM’s commitment to increasing pensions and ensuring that the rate reflects inflationary pressures. This increase will help retirees maintain a dignified standard of living. In addition, PDM will push for regular salary increases for public servants, ensuring that government employees are not left behind as the cost of living rises.
Recognizing the challenges families face, Mrs. Mulcare announced PDM’s plan to introduce back-to-school vouchers to help parents cover the costs of school supplies and uniforms. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on parents during the critical back-to-school period.
For the private sector, PDM has proposed a three-month tax-free salary period for all private sector employees. This measure will provide immediate financial relief and increase disposable income, allowing workers to better manage their expenses.
The party also plans to raise the tax-free income threshold from $18,000 to $24,000 per year, giving residents more take-home pay and increasing their purchasing power.
In addition, Mrs. Mulcare addressed the rising costs associated with vehicle ownership. She announced that PDM will work towards reducing taxes on the importation of vehicle parts, making it more affordable for motorists to repair and maintain their vehicles. This will provide
much-needed relief to drivers facing high repair costs.
Acknowledging the housing challenges on the island, Mrs. Mulcare also outlined PDM’s commitment to reducing taxes on key building materials, making it easier for residents to repair, maintain, or build new homes. With many homes in need of repairs, this initiative aims to make housing more affordable and accessible.
“These measures are vital to ensuring that people living on Montserrat are comfortable and can truly enjoy life on the island,” said Mrs. Mulcare. “PDM is committed to making Montserrat an affordable place for everyone, and we will take the necessary steps to ease the financial burden on our residents.”
